October!

Dear Families,

Welcome to October! I hope that you have survived the torrential downpours that have been accosting us! It has been crazy weather, hasn't it?

A few updates:
  • Missoula Children's Theater permission slips went home yesterday. They are due October 7th. If your child needs one, please let me know so that I can get them another one (or have them get one in the office) ASAP.
  • Permission slips for the 5th grade field trip will go home TOMORROW, October 2nd. We'll be going to the Museum of Flight. The cost per student is $6.00.  We can take up to 10 chaperones per class.  If you are interested in chaperoning for this field trip and have gone through the district's volunteer training please let me know by filling out the bottom portion of the front letter and returning it to me by Thursday, October 10th. If we have more than 10 parents interested, we will draw names.  Students will need a sack lunch on the day of the field trip. If you would like your child to receive a school sack lunch for the field trip, please fill out the attached form and return it to school BEFORE Wednesday, October 23rd.  Students may bring up to $5.00 to spend in the gift shop, however we do request that students do not use the money to ride the simulators. Permission slips and payment are due Thursday, October 24th.  If you need help paying for the field trip, please contact me separately and I can help.
  • Open House is Thursday, October 3rd from 5:30-7:00. Please note that the start time is one half hour earlier than in previous years.
  • I will be putting together the volunteer list on Sign Up Genius.  Remember, if you do not want to receive emails about volunteering, please let me know ASAP so that I can take your name off of the list.
  • If you are considering joining the PTSA, there will be a table in the gym where you can sign up to belong!
Mrs. Rodriquez and I are rotating every other week to teach the social skills program and social studies to our students.  For the Second Step social skills program, students are learning about empathy and respect.  Both classes have completed the first lesson on empathy and my homeroom is working this week on the second lesson addressing how to listen with attention.

As a homeroom class goal, we are working on quick and quiet transitions.  Students are also working on staying on topic while working in groups.  Students have been doing an amazing job with LINES behavior in the halls and during transitions from block to block and in from recess on the bus lane. I am so proud of their efforts!

Take care,
Amy Cassady

Dear Families,

Welcome to the start of another year! We are off to a great start and I am so excited to have your children in my room this year. A few house keeping things:
  • If you DO NOT wish to receive email updates at the email address that you provided due to it being a work email or your spouse is receiving them, please let me know by replying to the email you will get when I forward this blog post to you.  These will also be the email addresses that I use when I set up my Sign Up Genius account for parent volunteers in the classroom. So if you want to get email updates, but do not want to get emails from Sign Up Genius, you can let me know that as well.
  • Picture day for Cassady's Crew is Tuesday, September 17th at 10:05.  If you plan on purchasing pictures, you can prepay online or send in a check on the day of the pictures.
  • I will begin volunteers in the classroom in October. If you'd like to volunteer, you can send me a note or email and I'll put you on the list. Veteran's Day

Our kids did an AMAZING job during the Veteran's Day concert. I am so proud of their effort and hard work to make this a special day for the veteran's. Here are some great pictures. If you'd like some for yourselves, send me an email and I'd be happy to send you as many copies as you'd like. Enjoy!
